On arrest, an intoxicated William Edward Preston told police: "I am going to come back and kill that thieving bastard."

Preston, 57, of no fixed Newcastle address, was dealt with in his absence on a charge of malicious damage on October 1.

He was fined $300 and ordered to pay $70 court costs and $2127 compensation.
